Acousmatic Sound Installation
Chamber of Whispers
A bathroom turned into an intimate listening chamber: spatialized whispers, drones, and environmental sound that build into dense internal dialogue, then dissolve and begin again.
A familiar room, enclosed
Chamber of Whispers is an acousmatic sound installation where a bathroom has been chosen for its enclosed acoustics: a domestic space where whispered voices feel close and slightly disorienting, and where listening becomes private rather than theatrical.

Internal dialogue as landscape
The piece explores internal conversation as a spatial experience. Whispers, ambient drones, and environmental layers accumulate until individual voices blur (the overwhelm of thoughts overlapping), then the field resets into silence and the cycle restarts. Intimacy and density trade places: what begins as a near voice becomes a crowd inside the same small room.

Bluetooth speakers, Ableton narrative
The project moved from individual concepts into a collaborative design once the dream-like soundscape was adapted to the bathroom. Drones were built in VCV Rack; whispers, drones, and environmental layers were then shaped in Ableton Live and sent through multiple Bluetooth speakers so sound could move around the room. Mixing and automation lock the cycle into a clear sonic narrative: immersion through spatial sound alone, with no visual media. Where you stand changes what you hear.

Sound that defines the space
The result asks visitors to slow down and listen. Spatialized whispers, ambient texture, and positioned loudspeakers turn a familiar bathroom into an active listening environment, with sound defining how the room is experienced.
