Context

A living seascape

Pelagia is an interactive audiovisual installation that recreates the calm dynamics of an underwater ecosystem: visitors influence fish, jellyfish, and particles through body movement, turning the virtual seascape into a responsive living environment rather than a fixed animation.

Concept

Presence, not remote control

Inspired by the slow continuity of marine life, the piece explores how presence meets environment. Participants do not grab digital objects. They subtly influence the field through movement, so interactions stay gentle and the underwater rhythm holds. The sea adapts; it does not wait for a button.

Process

Orbbec, GLSL, Ableton

The environment runs in TouchDesigner: procedural animation, 3D assets, and realtime effects as a layered underwater scene. An Orbbec depth camera tracks body position and motion. Ableton Live generates an evolving ambient soundscape locked to the image, so sound and picture stay one continuous field that responds to presence.

Outcome

Contemplative immersion

Visual atmosphere, sound, and interaction merge into a calm experience. As people move through the space, the ecosystem gradually adapts, inviting exploration without breaking immersion.
